Many know Janette's work from classes and talks at Shetland Wool Week, Glasgow School of Yarn, Fanø Strikkefestival, Schoolhouse Press' Knitting Camp, and working with many visiting knitting groups in Shetland. You can find her patterns online at Ravelry and LoveCrafts.
Janette is keen to share her insights about choosing and placing colors in knitting on this cruise. She has studied pieces in the Fair Isle and Lerwick museums keenly. As a designer, Janette has honed and refined her sense of color placement. She loves introducing knitters to her way of selecting complementary shades; the goal is always to make your knitwear a personal reflection and an expression of yourself.
Janette also delivers talks about Shetland's rich heritage, including the distinctive use of knitting (makkin') belts. She has spoken about the history of these belts and teaches classes, both online and in-person, using makkin belts and raepin strings. Janette strives to extend this living tradition into the future. Throughout her designs, Janette looks to bring colorful joy and new takes on traditional patterns to knitters worldwide.
BIO ~ Janette Budge
Janette began working as a computer operator and IT Helpdesk assistant. Later retraining and working as an Aromatherapist for a several years before she became a stay-at-home mum to her 2 girls. Janette completed a knitting machine design module in 2016 at the Shetland UHI. That was also the year Janette, and her mum began teaching at Shetland Wool Week.

Janette is a Shetland Guild of Spinners, Knitters, Weavers, and Dyers committee member. She is a trustee of the Shetland Textile Museum and a working group member for Shetland PeerieMakkers. She is also a Shetland Flock Book Society member for Shetland sheep.
